Trans Healthcare

Although many provincial governments provide some level of legislative protections for trans communities, there is a lot of work to be done in Newfoundland and Labrador regarding access to public gender-affirming care.
Although many provincial governments provide some level of legislative protections for trans communities, most provinces do not guarantee access to gender affirming medical services or accommodations under the public healthcare system. Access to comprehensive and inclusive public healthcare is a right for all.
Inclusive public health care for trans communities must also go beyond gender affirming medical services to include adequate coverage for mental health services and other necessary supports that acknowledge and address the effects of high levels of homelessness, poverty and unemployment that disproportionately affect trans youth and trans communities in general.
Recent Advocacy
CFS-NL has an upcoming meeting with Lela Evans, the Minister of Health, to begin work together on increasing access to gender-affirming care in Newfoundland and Labrador.
